(Eye) Ball

We have one client that we work with regularly who’s always sending us unique jobs, but this one might take the cake. She wanted us to create 700 elaborate invitations for one of Dallas’ biggest art events – the Eye Ball.

The Challenge

The client wanted the invitations to match the artistic nature of the event, so she decided on a neon pink card with the information pressed onto it. It sounded great, although we weren’t sure how we could do it, but she was confident we’d figure it out.

The Solution

We racked our brains trying to figure out how to get it done until we came up with an outside the box idea. It involved pink glue sticks, wax paper, and five crockpots.

You don’t have to be an expert to know this isn’t a normal way to make invitations, so there was a lot of trial and error. Eventually, we found a way to melt the glue in the crock pots without it sticking, pour it onto the wax paper, then press the dye on so the words were legible.

Then we had to find a way to take these invitations and shrink a holographic wrap around them without ruining the lettering we put on there. Sure enough, we figured that out, too, and the client ended up loving the invitations.

We even got their business again the next year, although she simplified the design a bit, so that was the last time we did a job that required melting glue in a crockpot.
